Meet The Therapist

Marilyn Opoku-Boateng, RSW

Marilyn is the founder and lead psychotherapist at Ampara Consulting and Counselling Services. Her passion for the field of social work is deeply rooted in her own lived experiences—growing up in low-income communities where mental health was not often acknowledged, yet its impact was felt daily by herself, her family, and those around her. These early experiences sparked a calling within her: to not only understand the complexities of mental health, but to also become a voice, advocate, and healing presence for others navigating similar realities.

Motivated by this purpose, Marilyn pursued formal education in mental health and social work, equipping herself with the knowledge and tools to offer the compassionate and effective care she provides today. Her practice is grounded in anti-oppressive and anti-Black racism frameworks, acknowledging the systemic barriers and generational trauma that often intersect with individual mental health experiences—particularly within marginalized communities.

Marilyn brings a warm, client-centered approach to every session, creating a therapeutic space where individuals, children, youth, families, and groups can feel safe to explore their truths without judgment. Her work is guided by empathy, cultural humility, and a deep respect for each person’s unique story. She believes that healing begins when we are able to show up as our full selves—and be seen, heard, and understood in that fullness.

With extensive experience supporting a wide range of clients through life’s transitions, emotional challenges, and identity work, Marilyn is deeply committed to walking alongside her clients as they rediscover their inner resilience and build toward lives marked by hope, purpose, and possibility.

If you're ready to take the first step toward a brighter tomorrow, Marilyn is here to support you—one conversation at a time.
